Slenderman Costume

We have decieded to change the costume idea for our Slenderman, instead of having an all white morph suit we have decieded to change it to all all black suit. Doing this has helped keep our minimal budget low as a white morph suit costs around £34 whereas a black one costs £10. Allowing us to reinvest this part of the budget in other areas.

Location

At the moment we have several ideas for shots, but to make these shots interesting and believable we will need to use clever locations. A range in locations will help set the scene for the film. A location is the place where the shot is filmed. We haven't got a fixed plan for the trailer yet but we do have several plans for shots to be used.

One shot we have planned is to help introduce the story and the character. It involves an Over the Shoulder shot of the character watching TV, but then to pan or zoom into the TV screen. This shot would be shot in a Living room, an example of which would be acceptable is shown below.

Another shot we are thinking of using is a shot of is one of a news room. This would be used to introduce the fact there have been murders. This shot would shot in a formal looking room probably behind a desk. We would use this shot to help introduce the story of the movies. Below is a shot of a suitable looking location.

Another location we are thinking of using is front garden of a house we will use it to help set up the story of it being a Horror and also the storyline of the main character being pinned for a murder he didn't commit. This shot would be set in a location such as this.

Props and Costumes

For our film to be enjoyable and beliveable we will need to include props to help make the charcters look real. Not only will costumes fall under the the title of props but so will everyday items used in the film.

Character Costumes

For our killer we are basing him on the real life legend of Slender man, a mysterious figure that resembles a man in a suit. He is scary as he is so mysterious as a character, but the costume also helps the mystery of him.

To create a character that looks like this we will need to have several items, some of which will be a white morph suit, to create the scary pale featureless face. A suit as for some reason he is almost always seen wearing one and a red tie. We have chosen to use a red tie as it will help draw attention to him if we hide him in the background. It will also help draw attention to his upper body and featureless face.

This is the sort of Suit and Tie we will use

This is the white morph suit we will use.

This is the final effect we are going for in the costume.

Another costume that is needed is that of the main character. In it he will be dressed in clothes in his spare time so maybe a dressing gown or jeans and a t-shirt. But he will also be dressed as a reporter in it at points so this would involve some smarter clothes such as a pair of jeans and a nice coat. However for this he made some small props such as his own small camera, a notepad and pen. Things you would expect a reporter to wear and own. Some examples of which are below.

A dressing gown that may be used as a possible costume for our main character.

This is another option for casual clothing for our character.

Something like this could be used for the section where the male main character needs to be dressed smartly.

Another costume that may be used is the possibility of some Non-uniform police such as detectives. We haven't yet decided on the shots that will be used in the trailer but this is a possibility of a shot. In it he would have to be arrested and handcuffed and put into a car. For this we would need a basic costume of a smart jacket, a pair of handcuffs and a car to put him in.

A costume like this could be used, he would have to identify himself as a policeman though as it may not be clear.

This could be a prop used to help identify the policeman as a policeman.

We are also playing around with idea of using a shot of a forensic detective at a crime scene. For this we would need a gazebo, some crime tape and a forensic detective dressed in an overalls, gloves, shoes protecters, a face mask and goggles. A picture of what this would look like is below.

We are going to have a victim also in the trailer, we plan for the victim to be a young girl, as we want the character to be defenceless for this. Therefore a young girl is a good choice of character as they are usually thought of in this way. The young girl would be wearing casual clothes such as trousers and a coat and hat. A picture of what would be acceptable is shown below.

Evaluation of Research into Horror Trailers

In conclusion to all the research I have done I have learnt a lot about Horror trailers, all of which I will try to include and sculpt my trailer with. I will separate each piece of research I created and write out what I have learnt and then collaborate at the end. To create a list of things that I should and should not do or include with the trailer.

What I have learnt from analysing the trailers

Having watched and analysed many Horror trailers I can take what is good about them and what is bad and use it to help make some rules.
Having watched the trailers I noticed the ones that caught my attention had a gradual change in speed of shots. So at the start it was slow and it let you grasp the storyline but at the end it was fast paced and scary trying to get horror fans interested in seeing it. A good example of this is Devil Inside with the slow shots set in the cafe where the daughter explains the back story and sets up the 'Possession' themed Horror and at the end the quick paced action including superhuman powers, scary characters and short shot times.
Another good point I noticed was the use of many shots. In my previous year 12 Coursework I created the first 2 minutes of a Horror film of which I didn't use many shots, to me looking back on this it didn't give the professional quality that I wanted it too. Therefore a varitey and range of shots should be used in our trailer to give it a proffessional quality.
I also like the use of effects within the trailer, including special effects and transititions. A good example of this is in Dead Silence where the use tranisitions to help keep the audeince interested. They also use special effects which help make it appealing and attractive for the target audeince.

Summary of things to include -
  • Change in Speed of Shots
  • Range of Shots
  • Use of special effects and transitions

Filming in December

We have set up to film in December however that could be several problems with the weather and the lighting. So one way to counteract this would be filmed several shots of the same clip while filming therefore if we have any problems with the clip we don't have to go back and re-film we can just use what we've got already, meaning it could help cut down production times.
