Hangover 2 Poster Analysis

Hangover 2 is a sequel film to the successful comedy film the Hangover. It was directed by Todd Philips, he is a successful comedy producer and has produced films such as the Hangover, Due Date, School for Scoundrels and Project X. This will be a big attraction for fans of his work, as having created so many successful comedy films it is likely to suggest to the audience that this film will too be worth watching. As this is a sequel to the previous film, 'The Hangover', it will already have a large fan base which can be seen in the film poster.

The first thing you notice when you look at the poster it the title, the Hangover title is set out exactly the same as the previous film, this is clearly trying to draw in their previous fan base. The second thing you notice when looking at the poster is the characters on the poster. The most noticeable is the the new feature, the monkey. As the audience haven't yet seen the film they do not understand how the monkey comes into the story, this enigma helps draw in a previous and new audience. The other characters are all from the previous film, it also helps the previous audience connect with this sequel easily. Some more enigmas that draw in the previous and new audience is the Tattoo on Stews face and the lack of hair on Alan's head. These two enigmas are specifically targeting the previous audience as these are characters that the audience would already know and like. You also learn of the location of the film as at the bottom it says, 'Bangkok has them now'. This lets the audience know that this time it isn't set in Las Vegas again but Bangkok.

In conclusion this movie poster is very good at drawing in the audience from the previous film but isn't as good at drawing in a new audience.
