Pineapple Express Trailer Analysis

Pineapple Express was released in 2008, it is a film about a process server and his drug dealer end up on the run from a drug lord who has sent hitmen and corrupt cops to kill them all because Dale Denton, the process server, witnessed the drug lord kill a rival. It was produced by David Green, and stars actors such as Seth Rogen, James Franco, Danny Mcbride and Ken Joeng. It was also helped to be created by the people who created Superbad, a very successful comedy, this could help the film be attractive to people who have seen Superbad and are thinking of watching this film. Also the cast is full of popular comedy actors, which will definantly attract an audience that have seen other films that star them.

At the start of the trailer it introduces the first of the main characters, Dale Denton, by showing a title of his name and then some clips of him in his car, smoking what appears to be marijuana by the way he is acting and what he is saying. Already there is a comedic moment where he is talking to himself then it flicks to the next clip where he is acting as normal as possible and quietly muttering to himself 'Cops'. At this point you realise that the film is comedy, which is appealing to usually a very wide audience. People who enjoy comedys will now pay attention and become more interested in the film. It now introduces the second main character Saul, compared to Dale he seems like a bit of a bum as he is sitting around a untidy flat in pyjamas watching a sitcom. This is where the 2 characters meet in the trailer for the first time, Dale is trying to get up to Saul's flat but is comically having trouble with the buzzer and is struggling to open the door. When they are in the flat you can see a difference in character as Dale has a job and wheres a suit whereas Saul is quite dopey and has overgrown hair. You then realise that Saul is Dales drug dealer, this sort of film will appeal to a younger age who can relate to some of the situations, they would like other films like Your Highness and SuperBad. You then see the main plot line unravel, as Dale is sitting in his car smoking, he sees a chinese man get shot and comically freaks out crashing into cars alerting the murderer to his location, but Dale gets away before anything could happen. The use of many comical moments in the trailer is a good way of drawing in comedy fans as if they find the jokes in the film funny they are more likely to go and see it, however sometimes, films use the funniest jokes in the trailer and the movie can be a bit of a let down but fortunately Pineapple express has many more comical moments within the film. Another method of attracting a younger audience is by playing music they would like within the trailer, in this case they play a song by M.I.A, this helps to grab the attention of their target audience. The rest of the trailer just shows some of the other comical moments from within the film. In conclusion this is a very good trailer for the film as it shows some very funny moments and attracts its target audience well.
